Chinese Civil War

On April 1927 a civil war was started in china. Between the republic of china lead by the Kuomintang and the newly established Chinese Communist party. The war started after the Northern Expedition, which was a battle against the warlord's forces. In this battle the Republic joined forces with the Communist party and the Soviet arms. When the battle with the warlord was over the nationalists turned and attacked Britain, seeing them as their biggest threat. When the British retreated to Shanghai the Communist units went into capture it in the name of Chiang Kai-Shek their leader. This action ended the alliance between the Republic and Communists and started the Civil War. The war went on till 1937 when the Japanese invaded. At first the Communist leader Chiang Kai-Slek refused to join with the Republic to fight the Japanese. Then the Kuomintang generals Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng kidnapped Chiang Kai-Shek and forced him to sign a truce so that they could join forces to defeat the Japanese invaders. This was known as the Xi'an Incident. In the late 1940's the United States supplied the Nationalists with hundreds of millions of dollars of military equipment. On the other side the Chinese Communists were being funded by the Soviet Union. The war ended in 1950 with the Communists winning forcing the Nationalists to retreat to the island of Taiwan. During the take over the Republics capital of Beiping was renamed Beijing and renamed Taipei, Taiwan.

Ghost story

Every summer my family goes camping. One year I thought I saw somone sitting on a bench in the empty camp site next to us. Then as I was leaving the tent I thought I saw the person again staring into our camp site. When I asked my cousins about the person they thought I was crazy. As I was going to brush my teeth I felt as though the person was watching me, while I was walking. When I was at the bathroom I was so freaked out that I went to look outside while brushing my teeth. The next morning I walked by the same camp site that I thought I saw the person in and to my surprise, it was the stump of a tree with a shirt and a hat. That night I learned that in the dark my eyes can play tricks on me.

fantasy story

If I had a time machine I could do many things, like changing the present and having adventures in the past. My time machine would be a sight to be seen, with large lights that flickered on and of as I was sent through time. Slowly the machine would start up spinning rapidly like a carnival ride. Making sounds that pounded your ear drums until you blacked out into another time. The outside would change according to the time that I was at. If it was the future it would be a futuristic car, if I were in the medieval times I would have a suit of armour and the time machine would look like a horse. Going back in time would have many flaws. You could change the lives of others and your self to make it better or worse. With this time machine I could be the richest man in the world by investing in stocks that I know are going to go up. I could go to the future and bring back cures that will save people's lives in the present. If only I had a time machine.

Essential Question #5

For this entry I wanted to review on what I want to become and why I want to have those jobs. The first one would be an engineer because I am creative and I am good at math and science. This would be a good job for me because it looks interesting and I can use my creativity in my work. Another job that I could have would to become a teacher. As a teacher I could give back to the community and use my people skills to help students learn. If I were to become a teacher I would probably teach a math or science and try to make the class as fun and interesting as possible while educating the class. While doing one of these jobs on the side I would probably become a football or track coach. I still don't know what I want to do when I'm older but I do know that I want to help people.

Essential Question #4

My brother is someone I have always looked up to. I would do the sports that he did and try and do better than him. My brother is now in college at UC Irvine. When he was trying to get accepted in to schools he was worried about his grades and SAT scores, but he ended up getting into one of his top choice schools. Right now I am doing better than my brother in grades that he had in freshman year and I am also doing other sports that my brother didn't do. I hope that If I continue to keep my grades up and do well in sports I will be able to get into a good college of my choice with no problem. Right now my brother is going to school with no scholarships. I hope that I can get ether an academic or athletic scholarship in the future so that I can help pay for my college tuition. I think if I work hard enough and have the right motivation I can get into a great college.

essential question #3

For this post I thought of the heroes in my life that contribute to the community. One of those people is my football coach Bryan Derby. He has set up a free clinic for offensive linemen to help with our technique and foot work. This camp is for one and a half to two hours on each weekend for four months until football season starts. The people who run this clinic aren't paid for their help but they do it because they want to see us improve. Coach Derby is constantly telling the team that sports are always secondary to family and school, he also teaches us good values like listening to your parents, respecting your elders, and telling the truth. Some of the athletes that he has coached have become professional athletes in the NFL, but he says that this isn't his best accomplishments. He says that the athletes that go on to college are his best accomplishments because he knows that with a collage education these athletes will become better citizens that will contribute to the community. Other than a football coach he is a volunteer fireman and has just agreed to start as the head coach at Damien school. For my essential question I want to figure out what I want to become in life and after meeting Coach Derby I might want to help the community by becoming some kind of coach or teacher.

Family Story Part #2

In Kindergarten my brother's class was starting a project on responsibility. In class his teacher explained that they would be taking care of unborn chicken eggs until they hatched. She also told the class that part of the responsibility would be checking to see if the incubator was at the right temperature, watching over the chicks when the hatch, and feeding them through out the day. The whole class agreed with her as they walked up to the front to get their eggs. As my brother walked up to the front as the last person in line he noticed that there were no eggs left, and his teacher soon noticed this too. After realizing her mistake of not getting enough eggs, she dashed out of the classroom to find another one. After going from classroom to classroom she still couldn't find an extra egg, when she noticed an egg sitting in the bio lab. Without thinking of the consequences she took it and returned to the classroom thinking that the egg just wouldn't hatch.
After weeks of waiting the eggs started hatching one by one and each student had a baby chick to take care of, except for my brother who had the egg from the lab. After days of waiting my brother lost faith of his egg hatching and wanted his own chick to take care of. When he was about to give up and started to unplug the incubator, he heard a small pecking noise that was coming from the inside of his egg. Everyone gathered around in excitement waiting for the small egg to hatch. Slowly the egg cracked spreading from the top of the egg to the bottom. The now separated part of the egg rose revealing a mysterious creature. Unlike any of the other chicks it had scales from head to toe like the tiles of a bathroom floor and had talons like a hawk. The class was shocked as they watched the creature emerge from the empty shell and so was their teacher. Horrified by the creature that sat before her she started worrying about what to do with this monster of science. As she thought of a way to get rid of it all of the students started to pack up and leave with their chicks including my brother. Unable to say anything she allowed my brother to take the creature home to show my parents. When he arrived home my parents had the same surprised look as his teacher and told my brother that he could not keep it as a pet. The next day the creature was returned to the high school as a pet for the bio lab to show their success.
